The Radio Equipment Directive Administrative Co-operation Group (RED ADCO) has published a guidance document titled “Interpretation of ‘internet-connected radio equipment’ under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).”
The document, dated 26 December 2025, provides further clarification on the terminology used in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30, which introduced cybersecurity requirements for certain categories of radio equipment from 1 August 2025.
Seven Practical Connectivity Examples
The ADCO guidance includes seven illustrated scenarios covering different equipment configurations, including:
- Direct and indirect internet connectivity;
- Communication through intermediate devices;
- Wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and Zigbee;
- Equipment incorporating radio modules;
- Combined radio and non-radio equipment.
These examples are intended to assist manufacturers in understanding the interpretation of internet-connected radio equipment under the RED.
The guidance is non-binding and does not replace the applicable EU legislation. Manufacturers remain responsible for assessing their products individually.
