Japan MIC Certification for Wireless & IoT Devices

MIC certification is required for all wireless, radio, and IoT devices entering the Japanese market. It ensures compliance with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) regulations, covering spectrum use, radio frequency emissions, and telecommunications safety. Without MIC approval, products cannot legally be sold or connected in Japan. At IoT Consulting Partners, we support manufacturers, integrators, and importers through the entire MIC certification process — from testing and debugging in accredited laboratories to documentation, applications, and approvals. Our goal is to make compliance smooth, efficient, and reliable, so your product achieves fast and successful market access in Japan.

What is MIC Certification?

MIC certification is Japan’s mandatory conformity approval under the Radio Law and the Telecommunications Business Law. It applies to all wireless transmitters, IoT modules, and telecom devices marketed in Japan. Certification ensures compliance with requirements for radio frequency emissions, spectrum allocation, safety, and interoperability.

Approval is typically granted by a Registered Certification Body (RCB), often referred to as “Telec approval.” Without MIC certification, wireless and IoT products cannot be marketed or connected to Japanese telecom networks.

Which Requirements Apply?

Depending on the product, Japan certification may involve:

  • Radio Law Certification – required for all wireless transmitters (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, cellular, RFID, 5G, etc.);
  • Telecommunications Business Law (TBL) – applies to devices connected to public networks;
  • SAR / RF Exposure Testing – ensuring compliance with human exposure limits;
  • Labeling Requirements – devices must carry the correct “Technical Conformity Mark” before market entry.

How We Help

At IoT Consulting Partners, we support clients through the entire MIC certification process:

  • Pre-Testing & Debugging – verifying RF performance before formal testing;
  • Accredited Lab Testing – coordinating Radio Law and TBL testing in approved laboratories;
  • Certification Filing – managing submissions with Registered Certification Bodies (RCBs/Telec);
  • Documentation Support – preparing test reports, technical forms, and labeling guidance;
  • End-to-End Market Access – combining CE, FCC, MIC, KC and NCC and more, approvals for global product launches.

Our focus is on reducing approval timelines and ensuring your products enter the Japanese market without unnecessary delays.
